Let's say for example if one was helping to make a cartoon and he/she needed to give his/her work to somebody else to ask for their opinion, but none of the people he/she is working with is near him/her. In The World is Flat , Thomas Friedman talks about the Disney Channel show Higglytown Heroes as an example of workflow software. "The recording session," explained [Scott] Hyten [CEO of Wild Brain, the responsible animation studio], "is located near the artist, usually in New York or L.A., the design and direction is done in San Francisco, the writers network in from their homes, and the animation of the characters is done in Bangalore with edits from San Francisco."[1] Another example of workflow software is Skype.  One can talk to another and have a conversation hearing the other person's voice. One can also use a web-cam to make it feel like the other person is sitting right in front of him/her. Another example of workflow software is the use of video and voice conference calls. Using a microphone and/or webcam, people anywhere in the world can communicate, see each others faces, and hear each others voices all in live time. Offices and other professional workplaces often use more exclusive and high-tech video conference calls, like Cisco Systems, while even teenagers use workflow software through the use of free video conference companies such as skype and oovoo.
Workflow software is used in schools where all the teachers can compile their grades on a computer program so the students attending the school or their parents can view their grades. One example of a grading program accessible by teachers, students, and parents is Genesis. In hospitals, when you get an x-ray taken, it is sent to a database so a radiologist can look at it. Working as a group simultaneously is very important to fulfill some kind of difficult work, like administrating works such as Microsoft Sharepoint . Since the work that big companies do is very complicated and intertwined over and over with the part that do not really seem to be related that much, workflow software is almost mandatory to practice. Same as in politics and employment, the organization, association use this program for more efficient work capabilities (for their own profits). Many companies are using "computing in the cloud" which are free technologies like Google Docs , Google Calendar , IGoogle pages , and TimeBridge to manage workflow around the world.  Some governments are using open sourse so people can help edit the software behind them. The White House is using a drupal so there is work flow at the White House because programmers on drupal are helping make it their site. The White house decided to go open source because it makes it easier for them to collaborate and get better ideas.D) Arts, Entertainment and LeisureWorkflow software is used in arts, entertainment and leisure, quite a bit. For example while making TV shows, anyone in the company can watch the show, edit, or send clips to anyone else in the company. Another example of a company that used workflow software to make their business easier is eBay. They bought PayPal so that people using eBay could send their money instantly, to one another, over the internet. They never had to worry about getting checks in the mail, they could instantly get it wired into their account. Hibbert Ralph Animation (HRA) recently started using a system that helps add and integrate the skills of the "traditional storyboard artist". A storyboard artist is someone specializing in creating "storyboards" for advertising agencies and film productions. Over all the model-driven application of workflow allows scientists to shape workflow rules and instructions to produce a certain result. Further in science, workflow is being used as an paradigm to manage large-scale scientific analyses. The program has helped in productivity and scalability of complex scientific experiments. An example of recent use is the production of drawings from many software programs to generate the desired data.
